possible by why to make it?

several amazing things are possible, it's possible to create them, but why to make them? One obvious answer is: for the money. However sometimes money is not the only or even main motivation. For the fame? For your own ego to show that you are capable of it? All nonsense.

many innovative creators have created stuff that never have seen the world, just because after making it, they realized: hey, this product has no big point.

that's why it is so incredibly important to have understanding of motivation.

this quote from Matrix:

We can never see past the choices we don't understand.

so however big amazing machine/product/thing you are building, don't do it if you don't understand really the motivation(s).

sometimes "how" is not a problem, but "why?" is the main issue.

smokers are mentally retarded

I hate smokers. I hate that I have to cope with them on the streets, for example shopping streets that are very crowded and it's second to impossible to evade people and the smoke.

fortunately in most places, like restaurants, airports, in EU smoking is forbidden that but it still happens that I drop by to a shop and smell the smoke. Then I leave immediately.

I think that smokers are narrow-minded and mentally retarded. They just don't get anything. Some smokers pretend to have "good principles" or "higher values" in something but it is all shallow and pointless.

You know who else hates deeply smokers? Steve Jobs! I've heard it in audio book about him once. Yes, there is something I share with Steve Jobs.

natural argument is obsolete nowadays

what is more natural for humans: to eat fruits:

... or to eat meat?

this is one of many arguments about what is natural and what is not. Well, my opinion is: we can forget that stuff about what is natural because most of our environment is not natural and also now average age of people is 75-80 years while "natural" is just 30-35 years old, so it is not natural in first place that people live so long. Then comes the environment things.

I was living in places where snow was black - literally - due to pollution from chimneys of factories, and level of various kinds of radiation from many sources, not just cellphones is also huge.

shortly speaking: natural is no more. Now the only thing that matters is "what is healthy in given personal context, given environment". And yes, we humans still are animals, who however don't practice anymore animal stuff like jumping the trees and running after food and obviously, but not "naturally" watching television 10 hours a day and not exercising - is unhealthy.

but don't tell me what is natural or not. it's over.

Android fanboys are idiots

What about latest buzz about Android?

A quote from @chrisoldroyd (who was doing podcasts with me in the past):

Please stop all this Droid crap, show me 100000 apps in the app store and millions of worldwide users then we can compare to the iPhone

While I know that people think that being Windows Mobile fanboy is equal to being simply stupid, what about Android? Well, still more Windows Mobile phones has been sold (30+ millions in use) than Android phones but Android gets more buzz. Also the HTC HD2 that has display of size 4.3 inch (biggest display in cellphones in the world) and multitouch will change how people view Windows Mobile. HD2 is on sale since 2-3 days in Europe and comes next year also to USA.

Why people think however, that Android (and Droid generation) can be real competition to iPhone? Well, because these people simply don't know iPhone - how many apps are there for iPhone and the power of APIs in iPhone that are many times more powerful than Android APIs. Imagine: you can be underground in shopping center without GPS signal but still get location, thanks to cellular tower triangulation, over common API usable in all apps in iPhone - in other platforms such feature is available only in google maps, but in iphone - in all apps thanks to so many common APIs. No other platform than iphone has so many apps and so many APIs as iPhone.

Of course Android 2.0 that just has been released brings a lot of improvements, including support for multitouch and Windows Mobile 7 coming next year will also bring support for multitouch, digital compass etc but still I must admit that iPhone is much ahead.

Finally it all boils down to accessibility of apps: in many areas, like Sirius app in USA, call-a-bike app in Germany or rail app in Switzerland:

- there are no apps for any other platform than iPhone. I understand that Android is catching up quickly and Windows Mobile is catching up slowly, but still iPhone is ahead very very much so.

So are Android fanboys idiots? Well, let me put it this way:

--- if you are Android fanboy and claim that any Android phone is better than iPhone - you are idiot

--- if you own a company and you would like to have a mobile app to access services/products of your company, and if at the same time you think about releasing Android app before iPhone app, then you are an idiot too - as there many times more iphone users and these are people more eager to buy/use your services/products than these mostly-commie-like Android users.

PS. I was today in Starbucks to buy my fav coffee: "Espresso Doppio" and all cellphones that I have seen on tables or used were: iphones.

podcasts are not for ever too!

so, few months ago I moved podcast hosting of msmob podcast from my own dedicated server at 1and1 (super but not free) to mevio (sucks but free) and before closing contract with 1and1 I forgotten to do backups and I lost several old podcasts, including the interview that I carried out with John C. Dvorak but also interviews with top managers from Palm and some lower managers from other companies like Microsoft and HTC.

it sucks! of course there is archive.org service but it is not storing MP3 files for eternity. Obviously many people publish on the internet all those music files in MP3 so not all MP3 are podcasts but I am amazed that google still is not offering podcast hosting - maybe due to the fact that one can't commercialize podcasts like videos with use of banners or pre-video-play etc.

anywho, it all starts to suck. I wish somebody could make podarchive.org or so that podcasts could be stored for ever. of course one can store one's files personally but it's not the same

geez, luise, everything is so volatile.

apps disappearing from iphone app store!

so, the other day, or rather today, I was playing with jailbreaking and by the way i had to reset the phone because it went into that restore mode etc so I wanted to download again apps that I have had previously and: some of them are no longer in app store!

the reasons:

--- developer stopped paying $99 a year so his apps were pulled

--- Apple decided to remove some app because it was violating some imaginary guidelines or something

--- developer himself/herself decided to withdraw an app for some reason

the fact is that for example previously there were 3 apps in given category that I searched for and now there is one. Another app that I had and was happy disappeared totally from app store and now I have to find similar with similar functionality.

well, maybe i should do backup before playing with jailbreaking? this is all true, but i am too lazy for that.

anywho: remember: apps are not (!!!) for ever - they may disappear for app store, so better make backups of apps!

iPoppy but do you wear poppy lapel?

photo above I took with use of my HTC Diamond phone powered by Windows Mobile. On this photo you can see, next to my iphone, also a poppy lapel.

if you are a Brit you should wear it these days. I sympathize with UK so I wear it.

tomorrow there is Remembrance Sunday in UK and since I am Polish, I can just remind Brits that Polish pilots were second best/most effective after English in Battle of Britain, that Polish mathematicians were the first to crack Enigma machine, Poles also brought Enigma in parts to UK to continue cracking it, and Polish forces were participating in D-Day and several other operations, together with Brits, all over Europe and beyond. In other words Brits should remember that not only commonwealth people but also friends from Poland were helping them.

note: as EU citizen I can move to UK and become citizen of UK after 4 years - all without any visas or permits due to freedom of movement being one fundamental law of EU. However I am not doing it because I am busy elsewhere.

So, if you are a Brit, go get poppy lapel and buy it and stick it on yourself or you suck!
